With the rumbling sound of the subway and the smell of dirty-water hot dogs filling the air, it was clear the Onward State crew wasn't in State College anymore. In fact we were over 200 miles away in the city that never sleeps, New York, for NYULocal's Young Media Weekend. The event was a focused discussion lead by 8 bloggers/panelists about new media and its effect on the changing world of journalism.
There's been a lot of talk over the past several weeks about Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett's proposed state budget and how it will affect Penn State. The proposed budget eliminates $188 million from Penn State's state appropriations, severely impacting Penn State's budget. But for a University with an operating budget of over $4 billion, $188 million is a drop in the bucket, right? Not exactly...
Penn State alumni Frank and Janet Dudek committed $2.5 million yesterday to the University to support several academic units. The donation will help establish scholarships, support research and purchase laboratory equipment for the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the Eberly College of Science.
Approximately 1,600 participants on 156 teams persisted through cold, rainy, muddy conditions to raise $97,880.95 for the American Cancer Society.
Last night, Penn State’s Khaleeji Student Association held its Arabian Night in Heritage Hall, a colorful event designed to showcase the various Middle Eastern cultures that it represents. With miles of food, fashion, and a rather gymnastic belly dancer, students and parents alike were given a very lively taste of Arabian custom and society.
The Penn State baseball team went 2-2 on the week, running their season mark to 19-10.
