The University Park Undergraduate Association saw a special presentation from Off-Campus Representative Haley McClernon about the possibility of running a shuttle from State College to the Amtrak station in Lewistown, which are not currently linked.
The Assembly will vote on two proposals next week, one service offered through Fullington Tours, and the other through Nittany Express. Budget-balancing enthusiasts, accounting majors, sharpen your pencils.
It seems pretty cut and dry, but when you stop a minute to think, there are some more factors that can enter into the decision making process. So you can check out the presentation shown to the Assembly and decide for yourself. Most importantly, tell your representatives what you think! Let them make no mistake about what you, as their constituent, want.
Earlier this week the Science, Technology, and Society program was informed that the a strategic review council had recommended its closure. The decision is not final at this point, as it must first pass through Faculty Senate and the Board of Trustees, but with a stated intention of closing the program by June 2012, the university does not seem to think that it will be a problem.
Tenured faculty will be transferred to other units and Penn State will make an effort to treat other faculty fairly, but effectively speaking much of STS found out this week that they would probably be laid off in the near future.
Students who are currently enrolled in the STS minor will be able to graduate with it. I know this because I am one of them.
Last night, the University Park Undergraduate Association voted 36-0-1 on a resolution presenting the results of an audit of the UPUA's Department of Legal Affairs. It had previously surfaced that Legal Affairs had not been appropriately reporting its expenditures and was perhaps doing some inappropriate spending.
The University Park Undergraduate Association went about its usual business last night after successfully electing their first student representative for the State College Borough Council.
The Assembly passed three policies. The first clarified the operations of UPUA Legal Affairs, the second clarified the role of Executive staff and services, and the third created an official Facebook page for the UPUA.
