Last night was the first meeting of the University Park Undergraduate Association's Sixth Assembly, and also the first meeting of the TJ Bard administration. Both new and returning members of the UPUA were sworn in. Other than that, though, nothing exciting really happened. Since the new Assembly hasn't had time to meet and discuss new legislation, it was just Assembly representatives running for, debating on, and voting for committee chair positions.
Yesterday, Penn State saw another rally about Governor Corbett's proposed budget cuts and high tuition. The Walkout for Penn State drew a bigger crowd than the previous two on campus, this time filling the terrace in front of Old Main rather than just the steps.
The State College Borough Council finally found a way to cope with the growing opposition to State Patty's Day, and, in effect, abolish the holiday.
"We figured," said Borough Council Member Tom Daubert, "that if we outlawed drinking on the last Saturday in February, then they'd move it to the day before, after, and so on and so on. It just became too much to deal with."
To prevent the drinking nuisance once and for all, the government of Centre County agreed to raise the drinking age to 78, because the few people who are alive at that age aren't throwing bangers at the Meridian.
At 2:47 p.m. today, I got an email in my Penn State Webmail account signed by former Penn State lineman, helluva football player, and great student Stefen Wisniewski. Only the email address didn't exactly match up with the sender; I happen to know that the sender's address belong to David Adewumi, who evidently had Wisniewski write a short plug for his presidential try.
