Gameday Coverage: Penn State vs. Michigan

Blue and white versus maize and blue.
Penn State football travels to Ann Arbor to face Michigan on Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at the Big House.
After a two-season break, the once-iconic Big Ten rivalry is a bit soured in 2026, as the Nittany Lions sit at 3-3 and Michigan at 3-2. Matt Campbell and Kyle Whittingham are both former Big 12 coaches who have made the jump to the Big Ten this year. Neither has notched a conference victory yet, but one is guaranteed to leave Michigan Stadium with their first on Saturday.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the matchup.

CBS will broadcast the game, with Brad Nessler on play-by-play and Charles Davis on color commentary. Jenny Dell will report from the sideline.

Injuries
Since Michigan is a Big Ten opponent, Penn State’s injury availability report is available ahead of kickoff.
There was optimism that receiver Koby Howard could return against Michigan, but he remains inactive for Week 7. Campbell announced that the sophomore would be out for an “extended period of time” before the Wisconsin game. Campbell said on Tuesday that Howard’s return would be more of a “post-bye week conversation.”
Defensive ends LaVar Arrington II, Max Granville, Mason Robinson, and Dayshaun Burnett will not suit up on Saturday. Arrington II had a “cleanup” surgery on his knee and is expected to remain sidelined for the next few weeks.
Granville suffered a season-ending injury in practice ahead of the Temple game and will miss the rest of the season, as will Robinson, who was injured at the start of spring ball.
Campbell announced Wednesday that linebacker Alex Tatsch will miss the rest of the season with an injury. The sophomore missed games against Marshall and USC.
Cornerbacks Joshua Johnson, Christian Askew, and Tyler Armstead are also listed as out, along with tight end Cooper Alexander and offensive lineman Will Tompkins, who will miss the rest of the season after suffering a “unique” injury during pregame warmups before Buffalo.
Kicker Christiano Rosa is also listed as out.
Meanwhile, defensive tackle Armstrong Nnodim, defensive lineman Yvan Kemajou, receiver Chase Sowell, and linebacker Cam Smith are all probable for Saturday.
Series History
The Nittany Lions trail Michigan 17-10 in the all-time series. The Wolverines currently hold a three-game win streak, dating back to 2021. Penn State last beat the Wolverines in 2020, 27-17.
The two squads first clashed in 1993, when Michigan won 21-13 in State College.
Michigan won the most recent matchup 24-15, after the Wolverines pounded out 227 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback JJ McCarthy did not attempt a pass in the second half, as the Wolverines ran the ball 32 straight times. Drew Allar finished with just 70 passing yards.
Since 2013, Michigan has won seven of the last 10 matchups, but four of the last seven games have been decided by 10 points or less.
The Nittany Lions have been outscored 2571-681 across all 27 matchups with Michigan.
Betting Lines
